What is Hempcrete?
Hempcrete is a natural, modern & sustainable building material that is an efficient replacement for traditional building materials such as masonry brickwork.
As it is a bio-composite material made of the inner woody core or “shiv” of the hemp plant, mixed with a lime-based binder, hempcrete requires no chemicals, produces low levels VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and is hypoallergenic.
The result when paired with a timber structure, is a lightweight insulating material weighing about one seventh the weight of concrete. It can be finished externally with a render or left exposed internally with a sealant. Internally it can be rendered or plastered just like any other masonry wall. Hempcrete is pest and rodent resistant including white ants & termites, it does not rot or mould and is a fire retardant rated for bushfire prone areas.
The recipe and brand we choose to use is developed by Tradical®, a world leader of Hempcrete development.
With over 20 years of engineering and production, Tradical® has brought certifications necessary to comply with the Australian Building Codes.
It is currently the only certified recipe in Australia, allowing ease of building approval, warranty and insurance of structures post build.
